Yes, it i true: I wear makeup around the house. It is strange, I know; I admit it. I glam myself up for no one else but me. It makes me feel more awake, refreshed and alive. I enjoy going through my normal routine of washing and moisturizing my face and then putting my makeup on. I wear the same amount and go through the same process that I would on a day where I go to work. Why? Because I can. Because I like to. Because it makes me feel happy. I feel more myself when I am wearing it than when I am not wearing any. Being a wife, teacher, coach, sister, daughter, friend, aunt, granddaughter, niece, cousin and mentor is a tough job but at least I can look good and feel good doing it all.
My husband and I are both in the education field which allows us to have the weekends off (from actually reporting to work that is) so we like to start our days by lounging on the couch, catching up on the news, and drinking our coffee. Once we establish that we are ready to get our day started, the first thing I do is head to the bathroom to shower and get ready. Yes; I actually get ready to sit around the house and watch Sports Center or the NFL Red Zone and drink beer. I rarely venture out to the supermarket or even Starbucks without “putting my face on” as I like to call it.
To be honest, I am not sure why I feel this way because my husband does not care if I wear any or not. He says that I look good no matter what I do but I do not do it for him; I do it for myself.
There are actual benefits to wearing makeup every day that people might not realize. Aside from making me feel feminine and flirty, makeup protects my skin and creates a barrier from harmful UV rays and even pollution.
The process of priming my face for my daily make up is just as important as taking it off. I remove my makeup and then moisturize before I go to sleep every single night. I also make sure to never, ever skip a night of removing my makeup or moisturizing, either. Once a week, I like to treat my face to a skin mask, under the eye gel masks, or a 1-2 minute facial scrub. Taking care of my face is extremely important to me and I make certain to never skimp out on the daily care of it. After all, you have to have a clean, well-taken care of palette in order to end up with a beautiful painting, right?
So, to all of those ladies, moms or professionals out there who feel guilty for wasting their expensive beauty products on a day when they are not going anywhere, DO NOT FEEL GUILTY. When you find something that makes you feel good, go with it. Remember, you do not do it for anyone else; you do it for yourself.
